Refined Diagnostics is part of the KURE research project within the KIOn programme of the German Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space, an initiative of the National Decade Against Cancer supporting AI assisted precision surgery in oncology.

Last week, representatives of the KIOn projects met in Berlin for the programme kickoff event. The meeting brought together research institutions, clinical partners, and industry participants working on new approaches to integrate artificial intelligence into surgical oncology workflows.

Refined was represented by Therapy Development Manager Dr. Steffen Ullmann, who presented the KURE project together with partners from University Hospital Dresden and Katana Labs. The event highlighted how close collaboration between academia and industry enables the translation of emerging imaging and AI technologies into practical clinical applications.

Within the KURE project, stimulated Raman scattering based molecular imaging from Refined is combined with spatial biology AI methods to enable real time tissue analysis directly during surgery. The goal is to provide surgeons and pathologists with diagnostic information at the point of care and support faster clinical decision making.

The KIOn programme is part of Germany’s National Decade Against Cancer and reflects the growing strategic importance of AI assisted surgery in Germany and marks an important step toward bringing these technologies into routine clinical practice.
